Childrens Art is a hugely popular part of Kinsale Pottery and Arts Centre teaching programme – fun and learning for those children aged between 5 and 12years.

At Kinsale Pottery and Arts Centre you do everything from clay work, painting and drawing, collage, glass painting, paper marbling, weaving, to making theatres. They also offer creative writing for children, with specialist writing and poetry teachers.

Taught by experienced children’s art teachers, Childrens Art class sizes are normally 5-15, and classes run in 1-2 hour blocks, with refreshments breaks for longer sessions. They have a range of half-day, one-day, two-day and five-day programmes as well as term-time after school classes.

Kinsale Pottery Childrens Term-Time Art Classes

Kinsale Pottery and Arts Centre run weekly art classes for children on Tuesdays (15.30-17.00) and Poetry and story-telling on Wednesdays (16.30-18.00pm) during term-times in blocks of 8-10 weeks.They aim to give children experience of all the basic pottery techniques, plus painting, drawing and a range of craft skills. In these classes, students will be guided through projects from sculpting, slab pottery and coiling to painting murals, collage, mask-making, glass painting and tie-dying. Each term includes at least 50% of the classes in the pottery. The classes are tailored to suit children aged 5 to 13, and must be booked for at least six classes at a time.

Kinsale Pottery Childrens Creative Writing

Prize winning poet, Adam Wyeth and Cork actress, Paula McGlinchey. workshops are not to be missed! In each session the group will play fun programme combining creative writing and drama in parallel sessions each weekThe children will delve deep into their amazing imaginations – and discover wonderful poems within them.

There’ll be plenty of physical activity too, as the young writers explore the outside world using all their individual senses. The group will also look at many fun forms of poetry – like Limericks, sausage sentences, haiku and clerihews – then they’ll create their own. All this and much, much more!

Each child – guaranteed – will come out with a greater awareness of drama, words and language, and will have more fluency and vocabulary in their writing – which they’ll carry forward into secondary school and beyond! The children will be in different age groups.

Kinsale Pottery Kids Workshops

A series of four fun-fill workshops for up to 12 children using entirely natural and home-made materials and tools – preparing dyes and pigments, making termpera paint, drawing on slate, hand-made paper, dried flowers, flour paste. Each workshop last 3 hour and it is possible to take one, two, three or all four in one week. There is a discount for all four.

The workshop are:-

  • Sea – working with sand, different coloured seaweed, salt, shells
  • Field – working with straw, grasses, feathers, mud, corn husks and other pulses
  • Hedgerow – taking thorns, sticks, flowers and stems
  • Forest – using twigs, nut shells, dried leaves, bark and fir cones

The workshops running times:- May 8 and 9, September 18 and 19. These workshop run morning from 10.00 13.00 or afternoons 14.00 – 17.00 and are suitable for children aged 5 + years ( mosaics for children 10 +) is priced at €20 per child pre workshop or €80 for all four workshop.

Children Arts And Crafts Summer Camps

In July and August each year, they run a series of childrens summer art camps. Each camp runs for five consecutive days and comprises two sessions per day:- 9.30-12.00 noon and 13.00-15.30. You can choose to send your children to mornings or afternoons, or for full days. The camps are designed with fun and art education in mind and include the widest range of activities from pottery to tie dye, theatre building to paper marbling.

Kinsale Pottery Art Birthday Parties

  • 2 Hour Art Sessions for Parties of up to 24 kids
  • Themed Party options (Pirates, Fairy Tales, Peter Pan) with activities include clay modelling, drawing, painting, face painting, arty games and glass painting.
  • Parties suitable for children aged 5 plus
  • Weekday or weekend afternoons – 2 weeks’ notice normally enough
  • A second room is available for your party tea after the art class
  • €150 for up to first 10 children, then €12 per child up to 15 and €10 per child for 16 plus

Stop Motion Animation Art Parties for 10+ age group

Choose a theme and create magic and mayhem with stop motion animation techniques… Be a mad magician, a ghostly ghoul or a fiendish pirate.Enjoy the adventure of creating your own gags on film – making things (and people!) disappear, reappear, transform and travel in unexpected ways

The arty party includes demonstration games, creating and animating your own plasticene characters, acting to camera and, most of all, creating magic!
