National Library of Ireland

The National Library of Ireland’s holdings constitute the most comprehensive collection of Irish documentary material in the world and offer an invaluable representation of Ireland’s history and heritage.

There are collections of printed books, manuscripts, prints and drawings, photos maps, newpapers, microfilms and ephemera. The library’s research facilities are open to all those genuine research needs.

The Library hosts a wide variety of events including public lectures, poetry and music recitals, theatre, children’s storytelling, creative workshops, and much more.

The National Library Opining Hours

  • Mon – Wed: 9.30am – 9pm
  • Thurs – Fri:  9.30am – 5pm
  • Saturday:      9.30am – 1pm

 

The National Library Café

  • Joly Café

The Joly Café  is located on the ground floor off the front hall in the main Library. Snack foods, light lunches as well as teas and coffees are available throughout the day. There is seating for 46 in a comfortable, bright room which in an earlier era was also a café.

 

How To Get To The National Library Of Ireland

The National Library is located on Kildare Street in the centre of Dublin.

The Google map shows the location of the Main Library Building on Kildare Street. There are other Library building at 2/3 Kildare Street and the National Photographic Archive in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar.

The Library’s administrative headquarters are also located at no. 4 Kildare Street.
