First Aid For Parents

As a parent we have many responsibilities to our families but possibly the most important one is to ensure their health and safety. Would you know what to do if you were faced with an emergency situation, in particular one involving a baby or child? Can you rely on yourself to deal adequately with the situation and more importantly can your children rely on you?

It is thought provoking that a large majority of people in Ireland are an average of thirty minutes drive away from the nearest hospital and many injuries that present themselves in the country’s A & E departments can be dealt with in the home with the appropriate skills.

Most accidents do occur in or around the home and the vast majority of first aid is administered to family members by family members. It is obviously important to try and avoid accidents and emergency situations and we will teach you the best ways to do this but possessing the skills and knowledge required to deal with any situations that arise is extremely important as a parent.

First Aid Course

The exclusively designed course teaches participants an understanding of the principles of first response, the skills required to provide necessary first aid and to deal with emergencies and essential life saving skills.

Not only does it cover the minimal skills a parent requires such as temperature management and how to treat wounds and bleeding like nose bleeds and falls but also specific skills such as learning how to place the patient in the recovery position and how to deal with head injuries and recognise when they require further medical assistance. You will also acquire the life saving skill of performing C.P.R (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) on a child or infant. Your instructor will teach you how to deal with common household accidents including burns and scalds, muscular skeletal injuries such as broken bones, dislocations, sprains and fractures and choking and air way management. You will also be trained in recognising and treat individuals who are suffering from shock and other medical conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy and spinal injuries.

This exceptional course is delivered expertly by instructors who are fully qualified with the OFFAA (Occupational First Aid Assessment Agency) and are also one of a limited number of instructors in the country accredited by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC).

The day long course not only teaches all the required techniques to enable you to deal with a variety of emergencies but also allows plenty of opportunity to put these skills, such as CPR, into practice using lifelike dummies. Your instructor will assess at the end of the day how you have grasped and are implementing the skills you have learnt.

The aim is for you to learn in a relaxed environment and to leave with the skills and confidence in your abilities to ensure the safety of your loved ones in the event of an emergency.

All participants who pass the course successfully receive a Two Year Certificate of Competency.
