Star Outdoors is an extensive activity centre with water sports, archery and hillwalking which is fun for all the family even in all weather conditions in Kenmare. Boat Trips On Kenmare Bay
Step abaord this memorable voyage with Star Outdoors and explore the beauty of this coastline, the abundant marine life and breath taking scenery.
The interior of the boat is decorated to the highest standard with comfortable seating, which is ideally placed on the lower deck offering the best possible vantage points for all your family.
Tea, coffee and snacks are available on the inner deck from the bar.
During the boat trip of Kenmare Bay you can walk the outer deck where the scenery, the wildlife, uninhabited Islands, mountain ranges and natural topography can be seen all around you.
There will be a guide aboard the baot trip from Star Outdoors and will be able to tell you some interesting facts about the area, pointing out the natural wildlife, give you the history of the Kenmare Bay and will be happy to answer any questions you and your family may have.
Private fishing trips can be arranged and you can even stop off on one of the islands to cook your catch.
Scheduled sightseeing trips of Kenmare Bay are available on a daily basis from Star Outdoors. They departing morning and evening in high season and once daily, usually mid afternoon, off peak season. It is aboard a luxury boat with a top viewing deck and full toilet facilities.

Sailing At Star Outdoors Activity Centre
If you fancy sailing in Kenmare Bay then head down to Star Outdoors and pop on a wetsuit and buoyancy aid as no doubt you will get very wet and probably capsize. All part of the fun!
You will be sailing a dingy, which is the most responsive sailing as the vessel is so light you will instantly feel and see the effect of you actions. You will quickly learn the effects of the wind and your actions due to the size of the dingy.
The instructors at Star Outdoors are all ISA qualified and courses are regularly offered from beginner to level 3.
If you are confident in your sailing ability and want to step it up from the dingy then why not rent out of of their sailing boats. You and your family can explore all of Kenmare Bay. Enjoy a nice day out with your friends or family safe in the knowledge that professional instructors are always on hand at Star Outdoors Activity Centre to give advice if it is needed.
If you would prefer to sail accompanied by an instructor then you can avail of the sailing trips upon modern boats that professional instructors at Star Outdoors offer. With many attractions to see such as seals, dolphins, many different species of birds, and even castles with the wind in your sails there is countless options and destinations. All you and your family need do is sit down and relax as you enjoy the view and the feeling of the wind in your hair as you sail trough Kenmare Bay.
These trips range from one hour in duration to up to six hours if you want a chance to spot the seals. Star Outdoors also offer a full days sailing with a packed lunch on board to drop anchor and have lunch either in the middle of the bay itself or on the many piers and islands.
Star Outdoors Sailing Courses
ISA Start Sailing (Level 1) course
This course will introduce students to the basic boat handling techniques and background knowledge necessary to get started. No previous experience required.The minimum course duration is two days (14 hours) and the cost of the course is €159 per person.
ISA Basic Skills (Level 2) course
Developing the skills acquired at level one candidates will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor in light winds by the end of this course. Start Sailing (Level 1) proficiency required.
The minimum duration of this course is three days (21 hours) and the cost of the course is €199 per person.

Canoeing And Kayaking Activities
This is possibly the best way to explore the beauty and wildlife of the Kenmare Bay with its rugged coastline and rich marine life. You and your family can join one of the guided scheduled trips across Kenmare Bay to get a close look at the local seal colony or if you have experience you are free to sail across at your leisure.
If you would prefere the assistance of the qualified instructors they are available to give you one on one instruction or can take a group. Star Outdoors regularly run courses, contact them for more information. The vast stock of canoes and kayaks include single and double sit on tops, closed cockpits, sea kayaks and some Canadian canoes.
Canoeing And Kayaking Courses
ICU Level 1 Kayaking proficiency course
This course run by Star Outdoors will introduce students to the basic boat handling techniques for canoes and kayaks and back ground knowledge necessary to get started. There is no need for previous experience. The minimum course duration is two days (14 hours) and the cost of the course is €159 per person.
ICU Level 2 Kayaking proficiency course
This course will introduce students to the skills required to kayak safely and competently on flat water and Grade 1 rivers as a member of a group. They will also be required to assist in basic rescues. Level 1 Kayak proficiency is required to take this course. The minimum course duration is two days (14 hours) and the cost of the course is €159 per person.
Kayaking Trips (16+)
Star Outdoors run a one day kayaking trip to Sneem which is a distance of 22km and takes about seven and a half hours. It starts at 10am and includes an hour for lunch on the island. You are required to bring your own packed lunch. Drinking water and plenty of snacks are a must to be included in your lunch as it is a physically demanding day. If you would prefer food can be arranged on arrival in Sneem at a traditional Irish bar at your request.
On your trip you will see two castles, you can see the magnificent Blackwater estuary and paddle its wooded shores. Ofcourse you will get up close to the seals and even spot up to thirty species of birds.
It is run in groups with the minimum number being four and the maximum allowed is eight. There is an age limit and so this activity is only suitable for those over the age of sixteen.
If you fancy more of an adventure then you can avail of the two day kayaking trip. The first day is the same as the one day trip and in the evening you will set up camp in the beautiful Sneem River estuary, from there you will trek to Sneem and to enjoy the food, drink and fun.
On the second day you will travel a distance of 15km which takes around five hours. Again you are required to bring your own packed lunch but food can be arranged at your request for Castlecove beach bar.
You will follow a coast line more baron than the previous day, and witness the raw beauty of the Inveragh peninsula. For those of you who love adventure t hen you can try your hand at some bouldering and cliff jumping! Everyone can explore the islands of Cove Harbour.
Star Outdoors Water Sports
It would be a shame to be in Kemare Bay and not partake in some of the water activities that Star Outdoors have to offer. These include water skiing, wake boarding and donut rides. They are all great fun and the water skiing and donut rides are particularly good for those with little or no water sports experience and are perfect for groups. All equipment is supplied by Star Outdoors.
Hillwalking At Star Outdoors
As Star Outdoors is located between the “ Beara Way” and the “ Kerry Way” which trails through out Cork and Kerry hillwalking is ideal. Star Outdoors are facing directly across the Kenmare Bay from Carrauntoohill. You can choose from independent and instructor lead trips.
Another hillwalking option is the Killarney to Kenmare route. The instructors will lead you on trips through some of Irelands most raw beauty, some of which is only accessible on foot.
Full days and multi days of hillwalking are available with Star Outdoors and gear is provided subject to availability, such as boots, rain gear and compasses. A looped two hour walk is available from the centre with fabulous views over Kenmare Bay and Dinish Island.
Archery At Star Outdoors Activity Centre
If you don't feel up to trekking across the hills or diving into the water activities then why nt try your hand at archery? Star Outdoors have an extensive archery range and even provide left-handed and right-handed bows for your utmost convenience. This is an ideal activity to take part in as part of a group.
Schools And Groups Activities
Star Outdoors can cater for school or group trips from the ages of twelve upwards. They range in aims from team building programmes to Gaisce programmes (the President's Award) to outdoor survival experience, which is aimed at Transition Year students or older.

Accommodation At Star Outdoors Kenmare
Star Outdoors offer a selection of accommodation options from terraced houses to apartments to holiday suites. They can accommodate for up to twelve people and even allow up to two pets in the terraced houses. They are all self catering and are well equipped with modern conveniences.
