Charles Fort National Museum

 

Charles Fort is a classic example of a late 17th century star-shaped fort, commanding the entrance to the harbour of Kinsale. Designed by William Robinson, Charlses Fort is one of the largest military installations in the country.

The Fort has been associated with some of the most momentous events in Irish history including thw Willamite War 1689 – 91 and the Irish Civil War 1922 – 23. Utilised as a military barracks and training ground until 1922, Charles Fort was declared a National Monument in 1973
