One Family Family Fun Day Out

Enjoy Family Day with your family and friends at the Iveagh Gardens or create your own. One Family and EBS Building Society invite everyone to participate by coming out to the Iveagh Gardens or host a fun event at home with friends and family joining in, all raising money for the askonefamily national helpline for one-parent families.

One Family is Ireland’s leading support organisation for people who parent alone and share parenting. EBS is proud of their 75 year history, with almost half a million members today – making them Ireland’s largest family of savers. This partnership has created an opportunity for families to focus on just that – family on Family Day

On Sunday, 15 May 2011 United Nations International Day of Families from 13.00 – 17.00, One Family and their community partners will host a minimum of 15 family fun activity stations. These stations would enable family members to have fun while playing and learning about nature, health and wellness, creating their family tree, etc. Additionally, there would be approximately 10 food vendors to serve the needs of hungry families on the day with targets of healthy options for all ages.

Families with children aged 0 to 14 years, grandparents and other extended family members and friends might come along. Activities would be targeted at small children, older children and adults, there would be something for everyone! One Family would hope to have 500 to 1000 in attendance at the Family Day event in the Iveagh Gardens.

Who Is One Family

One Family is a leading national organisation for one-parent families in Ireland. Progressing the work of Cherish, we work with all types and all members of one-parent families, respecting the realities of family life in Ireland, to affect positive change and achieve equality and social inclusion for all one-parent families in Ireland.

Parenting is tough work, everyone needs a bit of support from time to time. Especially when you are doing it all on your own or you are trying to negotiate shared parenting. That’s where the "askonefamily" helpline comes in, they have trained professionals on call to provide information, support and a listening ear. All proceeds from this Family Day event will go to the "askonefamily" national helpline, for people in crisis who are parenting alone or sharing parenting. There has been a 25% increase in calls due to the economic downturn.
