Whizzkids Summer Camps

Whizzkids summer camps are for boys and girls aged 9-15 years. They host camps in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway and courses all over the country. Whizzkids are designed to maximise exposure to the world of multimedia technology, while making friends and having a brilliant time.

They run day summer camps, residential summer camps and after school programmes.

Whizzkids Day Summer Camps

Whizzkids runs summer camps in locations across the country and include higher level institutes such as UCD, DCU, UCC, UL and NUIG throughout the summer. Each camp runs from 9.30-3.30 and covers a mix of activities each day. Typical activities that are covered include web design, movie-making, sports, online gaming and a host of hi-tech challenges in our Spy Academy.

The summer camps run in Ireland’s finest Universities give access to fantastic facilities which are normally only available to third level students. Every student at the camp will have their own PC and Whizzkids will supply all the other equipment for the camp.

Classes are divided up by age and all groups are supervised at all times by fully qualified teachers. Our day camps are for boys and girls aged 9-15.

The Whizzkids mission is to ensure that you have a lot of fun but pick up some valuable skills while you are there and you will get to bring home a CD with your website and video on it as a permanent keepsake.

Whizzkids Residential Camps

The residential camps are for students aged between 13 and 17 and are more advanced than the day camps. It is situated in the University of Limerick which is one of the most beautiful and well equipped campuses in Ireland with world class facilites.

The Whizzkids Residential camp will have all the fun activities of the regular day camp, but with the extra time each area will be explored in more detail. This will be particularly enjoyable for those interested in movie making, where not only will there be performance and storyboarding of the video, but those attending will be undertaking the post production video-editing. The program of activities runs until 5pm and dinner is served at 6. At 8pm Whizzkids have their very own cinema on UL campus.

At the residential camp you will get to stay at Kilmurray Village which is one of the university villages on campus. Kilmurry is a complex of terraced houses in landscaped grounds, close to the Sports Arena, Tennis Courts, Running Track, Playing Fields and all the sports facilities. Each house can accommodate seven students and one adult residential supervisor. Each house has a fully fitted kitchen, a common room for down time and each student will have their own bedroom for maximum comfort and privacy.

Staff-pupil ratios will be 10:1 during the day and the supervision ratios will be 7:1 at night to ensure complete and utter safty for the Whizzkids campers. The instructors are fully qualified teachers and staff are fully briefed on health and safety measures.

Arrival for the residential camp is before 11am on Monday and departure is at 5pm on Friday. The University of Limerick is on the outskirts of the city just off the N7.

After School Programmes

Whizzkids provides a range of after-school IT programs. At these courses students will learn basic editing and file management skills and then progress to more advanced topics such as design, layout, working with images and programming. Courses are designed specifically for 9-15 year olds and they take place in your own school.

Whizzkids have three courses – desktop publishing, web design and video game progamming. Students attend for 1 hour a week for 10 weeks.

Schools or Parents Associations that would like to have these programs run in their area should contact the Whizzkids Office to discuss.

The Desktop Publishing course has a primary focus on layout and working with images. You learn how to create posters which enables you to develop on to create a comic book.

The web design course lets you build up a website little by little each week on a topic of your choice.

The video game progamming course is for students with some knowledge of IT and who are looking for a more advanced course. Here you can create your own video games from scratch.
